I am trying to remove the power mirror parts from the housing on an 85. I know there are 3 screws that hold the motors and stuff to a triangular bracket, and 3 more that hold that bracket to the housing, and I've gotten it out before with the bracket still attached, but it is very tight.
I was wondering if I can pop out the glass to get easier access? These are heated mirrors. It looks like there is an access hole behind the glass to make it easier to remove the screws, but can't with the glass in place.
I simply turned my fully inward and pryed it till it "popped" off the mounting. It has a mounting "cross" behind.
I'm trying to get a smaller part off actually. I think you popped out the 'turnion' (cross shaped part), I am trying to take the glass out of the black plastic part the turnion snaps into. It looks like it might be glued.
Yes, I had to access the mounting screws behind the glass.
I would bet that's the case; you may have to replace that subassembly.
In that case, give Contemporary Corvette (liink on my site) a call. They have new parts and a large Corvette bone yead with lotta used parts to draw from too.
