What setup should I use on this car to get cooler temps? I usually run in the 215 to 225 in stop and go traffic i would like this temp considerable lower. Anyone tell me what they have done to get temps down and what temps they are getting? It is totally stock except for an airfoil.
oh, and clean it and put it back in of course :jester . This dropped my temps a LOT. Also try a bottle of water wetter :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: You can put in a 160* t-stat, and you can also have your fans programmed to come on earlier so that you don't get up to those temperatures. Anything over 200 i do NOT like. And I have a 383, which runs hot, so i'm constantly watching my coolant temperatures.
Just had my coolant system flushed and filled extended life coolant. Used the system that pushes the new coolant through while pushing the old coolant out. You mean the front side of the radiator of course dont you when you say clean it. Like bug and dirt removal can this be done without removal?
If (!) your radiator is clean and your cooling system is in good shape, a 160d thermostat will help you greatly! Even if you do not reprogram you fans with a HPP3, as long as you run the a/c, the fans will be on anyway and the temp will stay down around 180 even in city traffic. On the interstate you'll run 174 to 185 degrees depending on outside temperature. i am running around 180-185 in 92 d weather and when it cools down below 80 d, I run about 174 to 177 engine coolant temp. Engine oil will still reach 190 to 200 (which is good!) on the interstate after a while, but never reach again the 220s I have seen before. Great mod so far !

:bs ( :jester ). My temps jump about 20 degrees. The extra load causes a lot of heat. When i hit 220 i turn the A/C off and roll down the windows. My fans stay on until 194.
Since you live in MN, id only go down to a 180 thermostat.
  Your coolant temp is good to have lower than 180. The oil is going to get hotter than coolant, which is what you want to warm up to around 180.
There's no way I'd run my car without a 160* t-stat now. I never saw any temperatures lower than 190 with my old t-stat. The first time i saw 180 was with my 160. And I had a 180 in there before. I've never seen 160*. The lowest I've seen is 175*. But i constantly hit mid-high 190's in cooler weather, and all the time i hit 200+ lately.
I don't plan to drive this car in cold weather at all and I am in the process of getting a hypertech programmer for it don't they suggest the 160 degree stat? Also It isn't a daily driver more of a weekend warrior. :D
Listen to Glock...he knows!! The 160° stat will help on the open road, but won't do a thing for ya in traffic. Remove the shroud, clean the radiator WELL, and you're temp will return to normal.
Getting the shroud off IS a PITA...but it's worth it.
Here's a link to a previous thread, and a post Glock made on removing the rad shroud...
It's really not hard. A lot of 10mm bolts along the top, three 7mm bolts down on the bottom front on each side. Two 10mm nuts on the passenger side, one on the drivers. A 1/2" bolt on each side. And two 10mm bolts on the drivers side. That's all it takes. The 7mm bolts on the bottom front sides are the hardest to get off... took about 3-4x's as long to get those out as the others.
FWIW...those damn 7mm bolts were more easily accessible for me from the underside. You'll see what i mean.

Good Luck!
:yesnod: :yesnod: :D
If i didn't clean my radiator out, i fully believe that I would have blown a head gasket by now. It definitely would have overheated.
