84 Long Cranking Time When Cold.....FIXED !
My 84 when cold took a long time to start when cold.
But started right away when hot.
I decided to do a search on here and be systematic about checking the fuel system to try to solve the long crank times when cold.
Yes i did hear the fuel pump turn on then shut off key on engine off.
Started by removing/checking the condition of the fuel sender unit.
Checked for voltage and grounds at the pump.-good
Checked the small hose on the pump in tank.-good
Checked the fuel sock ( not the green one but it was good )
Previous owner had said it was new and he was right, no rust in tank either.
Replaced the small fuel feed and fuel return line hoses with fuel injection hose cause they were old. ( next will be the emissions hoses ).
Checked my fuel pressure next, it was good.
Turns out it was the fuel pump relay !!!!!
The fuel pump relay connector also was a hot mess, sludge, exposed ends of the wires into the connector, and caked on di-electric grease.
Replaced with a new acdelco ( rock auto ) fuel pump relay. ( it actually was a made in china part in a white box and the white box was in an acdelco box, go figure ! ( still need to order the new connector pigtail ).
Now it starts right away when cold !!!!!!

Just wanted to thank all the members on this forum who take the time to contribute to solving these issues for us who are new to vettes.
I know a lot of patience is required when trying to help us noobs and it's not always easy to get your help across; often it's too easy to rub feathers the wrong way when trying to solve problems, but i appreciate the efforts you all make sincerely !

I did consider upgrading the pump but when i did my research most say it would damage the stock tbi fuel pressure regulators. So for now i decided to keep the existing pump. But i would like to upgrade it when i rebuild the stock regulators.
