my battery still drain 3.54 amps....followed all the circuits no luck so far....FSM says you can get a "short" finder that sends a magnetic pulse thoughout the circuit and the finder will sense the pulse...even through sheet metal...1985 manual.....has such a thing been around? anybody use one.....my draw is on the cts/clk circuit...so it's going to be inside the car....fsm gives a part #....just wondering if it would help find it.....
I would think such a device would only tell you what you already know since you know what circuit it affects. I would follow the wires from the end and unplug until there is no more draw so you can narrow it down. What is cts/clk circuit?
all 6 courtesy lites work...map coutesy is diconnected
radio clock turn off with ardisconnect 2 amps no change in amp draw...thinking if bose, it would have been reduced.
spare tire lite removed
timer/chimes all work
both hatchback latches work
both door locks work
security system off
map lites disconnected
cargo lites work
shows dome lite but I don't have one t top is clear
fsm says it can't be anything with a related circuit if it works...
it mentions the short finder..j8681 gm short finder...actually found them on the internet..140 bucks or so.....also others much more expensive....if there was a short in a wire or relay, fsm says this would find it...it would save a lot of time....i've spent considerable already.....
I know my logic is wrong somewhere because I haven't found it yet...if anybody has any Ideas....please help....right now i'm just going to start all over again from the beginning and see if i missed something
What I would do is set my multi-meter to amps and connect it in series at the fuse box and have someone unplug each item that is on that circuit until the amps drop.
Is the light on your inside rear view mirror on or bad? That happened to me and eventually killed my year and a half old battery. Good thing it was under warranty!
nothing in rear mirror works...looking at replacements online they seem to come with a fitted plug....when I started to look at the wiring of my stock mirror...two wire come from the passenger side, one from the drivers side up in the trim in the windshield...but....they were connected by pinched connectors, not snap in plugs like I expected...the three wire cable from the mirror was separated and stripped to allow for the connectors to crimp to the existing line....at any rate, I cut them and did not stop the voltage drop in the battery...the attenna does not work, po says it was disconnected in the rear and I verified that...not connected.... the mystery goes on....going to start all over today from the beginning....
thants for the info....I see I don't need the short finder for my current problem...probably will need one sooner or later....vanity lites ok too....the search goes on ,,,,looking at old battery drain vids...one says you just can't disconnect neg cable and read..something about sleep and awake modes....says to connect meter first then disconnect...going to be tought with those stupid 5/16 nut holding the cables to the battery...nobody ever heard of battery posts anymore???
as I posted in another thread re: my battery drain.....after two weeks of searching, I finally looked in the car when I connected the neg cable.for probably the hundreth time..it turns the cts light/puts crap in sleep mode...every time I put my meter in series with the battery, I did the same thing...and of course pulling the cts fuse stopped this....thought I was on to something......thanks for all your input....hopefully being a dumb *** will prevent some other new guy here like me from doing this....
did learn lots about the fsm...... car has been sitting for a few days, started up in a second.....anybody needs help with the cts/ck circuit, let me know...
