I just purchased my first vette today. My headlights are both up and they stay there. I have checked the wires and the 3 pin connectors are hooked up. I have found the 3 relays but I am not sure how to test them without buying new ones. When I turn on the headlights I do not hear any noise or feel any movement from the motor. (What actually triggers the lights to flip up?, is it the headlight switch in the headlight on position? Upon inspecting the motors I have found that the drivers side will not allow you to move the headlight using the manual ****, it is locked tight. Also the motor housing is slightly enlarged and cracked open at the seam. The passenger side allows you to easily move the headlight easily with the manual ****. Any suggestions you guys have would be greatly appreciated.
Also:
Is there a fuse for the headlight circuit?
Should you be able to hear or feel the motor free spinning if you have a gear problem?
If I can move the headlight easily with the manual ****, Does that mean my gears are good for that headlight?
Re: 87 Headlight Problems, where do I begin? (js0308)
You can run a hot wire to the motors.
There is 2 wires to each motor, apply 12 volts to one wire then the other.one way will open the other way will close.
If the motors work that way then your problem is the relays. The one thats locked up is probably bad.The other maybey alright.I think there is a fuze, check for power with voltage meter.
Either way,the way to fix it is to get an 88 conversion kit.You can get it from ecklers or MAD.Its $500.Or go to salvage yard & get what you need.
I dont think you can buy the old type relays anymore.
