Well I changed my waterpump today. I tried to go the easy route and not remove the knock sensors to drain the block. And, I have good news and bad news about the install. The good news is the opti stayed dry, the bad news is the garage floor got drenched with coolant.
The moral to this story, "Don't be lazy, pull the knock sensors when removing the waterpump on LT1's, and save a mess".
Where exactly is the knock sensor?
I saw a post that suggested switching to the Lt4 knock sensor if you go 1.6RR. Something about harmonics causing false readings and thus retarding your timing. Anyone ever hear of this?
I had a little gush of dex-cool as well, but the opti was all ready dead and the car was in the driveway. Not too big of a deal for me.

Jay, the knock sensors are on each side of the block.
The post you are refering to stated to change the knock module, it is on the lower side of the PCM.
