Default '89 'vert lid release ??'s

Is the '89 convertible lid/cover release manual operated or is it electrically released to open? Anyone have a snapshot of the under-side displaying the release or willing to do a snapshot of the lid under-side maybe showing me what to anticipate. Not my car and I've not seen the car yet! I'm interested in the lid release from the body NOT the release of the rear bow to the cover.

It uses the same type of system as the coupe rear glass. Push the button and it pops up.

From posts I've seen, sometimes one side works and other side doesn't. Since I have a coupe I didn't follow the threads closely. Maybe a search would be helpful?

Search didn't do well and that's the only reason I asked! I believe that there's likely a manual release provision that might be part of the cable assembly available from a couple of the resellers.

My 90 vert cover is electronic. In the center console there is a switch as well as under the drivers corner of the lid. Mine was working from the console but not the lid button - turned out the connection under the carpet at the very back of the pass side where the taillights connections go out the rear corner. The wires had become corroded and broke - reconnected them and the rear button now works fine.

I'm guessing an '89 is similar. Is there a mechanical provision for operating the cables if the electrical fails?

just behind the latch on each side is a plastic lever that you can lift and it manually releases. It is hard to explain where it is but once you finds it it works great. mine binds intermittently

I have a 89 convertible, it is 100% not electric. There are 2 latches under the sun visors. A button to pop it up on the drivers door ( on the side door needs to be open to access it), in the glove box and behind drivers seat under the deck lid. All 3 buttons are yellow and do the same thing. There is a release lever next to the button under the deck lid. It uses a pully system. As a prior poster said it is true sometimes both sides won't pop up. Happens to me all the time, a second pull of the lever and it always works. i could take pictures for you but i won't be with the car until tomorrow.

Lever and cables for the rear of the top itself. Yellow push button for the tonneau cover. Its behind the drivers left shoulder and is electric. I have the hardtop on or I would take photos for you.

Thanks all!

I believe I've a better grasp of the way it's assembled. Does it appear that the lever/handle for the top/rear bow latches would be a separate service part?

Not sure what your asking. The rear bow release is just like the hood release. You pull the lever and two cables release two latches. These cables are adjustable and all mechanical. The button for the tonneau cover energizes two solenoids that release those two latches. The systems are completely separate with no parts in common.

I believe I've got it sorted. The handle and cables are one part number for the rear bow.
