cars been running fine, hard cold starts. just set up a canvas garage and started her up and drove about 15ft then parked. went to start and instead of turning over it just grinds VERY loud. so im hoping its just a starter but any advice? 1985 corvette base coupe.
Its actually the solonoid not kicking the starter gear forward enough. That's why a loose bolt would do the same thing. But for the most part you're looking at a new starter. Now 'is' the time to upgrade. Get yourself a nice high torque mini starter from summit.com h
Stock durability is the same if you go with the newer version. It will also give you room for future projects, Ie. bigger oil pan, headers, and an updated trans. Here is a mini on ebay, that shows it fits all Chev from 55 to 96. h
i went with a stock as thats all they had and it was only $40. it was a spun bendix. but a new problem
now the car starts right up but will not idle. runs perfectly fine with the foot on the gas but it dies if you take your foot off. how could switching the starter out for the exact same model just newer affect this?
No starter wont effect that. Did you maybe bang the fuel filter, and dislodge something? Now its clogged. My first suggestion would be to get a fuel pressure reading, and go from there. h
PS; I would start a new thread stating your problem, so someone else will answer.
