Various L98 Issues/Questions
Before buying car, previous Owner changed all 8 injectors and updated AC to R134. Everything works on car. In 6 years he ran it 5000 miles. In one month, I have run it 2000 miles.
Already, I have tuned up with new AC Delco Platinum Plugs, cap, rotor, wires. Changed O2 Sensor. I am still getting the EGR Code 32. Aluminum Heads and Intake. Plus 1999 C6 rims and Magnaflow Catback system.
I put in a Bulldog Keyless entry that locks/unlocks doors and pops hatch. Fob is real close to my late model Chevy/GM fobs. I can actually just carry the ignition key! Very sweet kit for $40!!!
I have to pull apart the TPI Plenum as I have oil leaking onto manifold in middle on LH and RH side. My research tells me that the installer probably missed putting RTV on the bolts through the manifold and oil is leaking out of bolts where they penetrate oil jackets. Is this correct?
As far as the EGR, it seems to come on after running car for a few miles/few minutes and stays on. I took the car on a 6 hour run about 380 miles round trip two days ago. Service Engine Light came on but after a while turned off (confirmed bulb did not burn out on next start). The light stayed off until yesterday evening and then turned off after awhile. Do I really need to do anything or is the system cleaning itself out? When I did the tuneup, I had a miss and it appears they changed 7 of the plugs (they 8th plug under the AC pump was original and probably my "missing" cylinder. I am using super unleaded and adding lucas oil fuel conditioner with every tank. I also put ZMax oil additive and fuel additive when I changed oil.
Again, car runs real well other than the SES Light and the oil on the manifold. Any thoughts or experience to be shared are appreciated. I will be laying it up this winter to detail the suspension/brakes and engine compartment and to freshen up the interior. Bought complete kit at Carslisle last month.
Also looking for a polo green targa top (I have clear smoke) and recommendation for a good modern radio with bluetooth and Ipod or USB capability. The original radio is long gone and the aftermarket disc player jumps when I hit bumps. Looking to get away from discs anyway (no storage).
Thanks in advance. PCC

The bolts are known ( not uncommon ) to back out slightly causing oil leaks in the center or coolant leaks on the front / rear bolts
It takes about 5 minutes of steady running for the ECM to set error code 32. When you shut off the ignition it will reset the SES light.

Most of the L98's leak oil from the back of the intake because the underside mounting surface is almost polished smooth when it was manufactured, I roughed up mine and used the rubber front and rear gaskets.
I think my 90 leaked from day one by the look of the underside of the car.
The Vette system cost the most at $650.00. The Impala fit absolutely perectly as did the P'up. The Vette required that I "adjust" the center hanger bracket welded to the wye pipe with a deadblow hange, but other than that, fitment was good. I did not spend a lot of time adjusting the muffers orientation so the tips which are welded to the muffle are askew. I think I need to rotate the wye pipe off the cat a few degrees clockwise and all should be good.
Need a lift on the vette. Too damn low.
The sound is real good. No 55 mile hour drone. The noise is really concentrated at the tail end so not bothersome. I have the six speed so it has excellent motor breaking sound.
So am I looking at replacing the actual EGR valve, the solenoid or the MAP sensor or all three, or keep running the car on high test and additives in the hope it clears out?
What are the diagnostics I can do. I can certainly vaccum test the EGR when I pull it.
Thoughts?
