Ok, drove through REALLY heavy rain this afternoon to get to work. Now when I try to start the car, nothing...not even a click. All the dash lights up and all the readings appear to be normal. Anyone have any ideas? Really can use some help with this one. Stuck at work, I live an hour from work. Very limited access to tools too. BAH. TIA.
Thanks for the reply. Just got back from the vette. Only thing I did was intentionally trip the factory alarm system. Put the stinking key in the door to turn it off and presto....it started. I think I will go bang my head on a wall now to relieve my headache. :mad
At first it sounded like you got the opti wet, now I'm thinking you may need to replace your ignition key. The resistor in the key may be worn out ? ? ?
Hey, if you drove through all that slop like I had to today, you may have cooked the starter solenoid. Give the starter a tap with a hammer or wrench and see if it does anything. Also, I intentionally triggered the VATS system to make sure the security system didnt short from all the rain.
Hey, I've been in the same situation a couple times in the last 3 years or so. I live in the desert, and when it rains, it really rains . . . . . C4's are definately allergic to water ! ! ! But shorting out the solenoid, I doubt it. I'd get a new ignition key, $28.00 from the dealer, just to have as a spare . . . . . . . . :D
Im lucky, I had 3 sets of keys when I bought mine. It could very well be the keys. Somewhere between being pissed and wanting to call a scrap yard to come get it, I could have cleaned off any crap that was on the key from the nasty weather.

It can't be the starter....mine is in the block valley. I think its the VATS as it started fine about 5 minutes ago. Life with a vette........
 that's funny this happened to you guys today. i swear it must be something with rain. we might be getting our keys wet or something.
i was stranded this morning as well had to call the boss and say i was going to be late. :cuss reset the alarm went and got my spare key just in case and then she started right up. first thing i did at work was jump on the forum and ask this question. the vat seems to be the biggest response. the key or the ignition. i think mine is the ignition since i use the new key the most and have to old one as a spare. but glad you got your running again
The VATS have a circuit that shuts down the ignition for some given amount of time, 5 minutes or so. It's designed into the cars starting in '86. Just for those who didn't allready know that. :D :flag
