Re: Thermostat change out help (9vette3)
There was an article in Corvette Fever a while back where they said to drill a 1/8" hole in the thermostat to allow air bubbles to get through. This was supposed to help "burp" the system and avoid getting a "low coolant" light due to air pockets. I tried this on my 88 last year and it worked great for me.
Others have recommended just filling the radiator and running the car until the thermostat opens and refilling the radiator while it runs for a while to achieve the same thing.
If you do decide to try the drilled hole method, drill the hole before taking the thermostst from its plastic seal wrapping. It makes it easier to avoiid metal shavings getting into the thermostat.
Don't need to drill any holes...there is a brass bleed screw there for that. Also, and what I have done is remove the tiny hose on the top passenger side of the radiator to burp.
Strongly agree with the above about, 50/50 and Distilled water. But what I would add to the menu is: Watter Wetter, GM tabs and anti-seaze.
