Aloha! fellow covette owners, soon to be owners, and want to be owners!! Ques. How much do all, some, or one of you cut back the spark plugs, also, how long of a life should I expect from the plug afterwards, and finally for those of you who are in a hurry to go to the next subject on this forum because of me being such a terrible bore, how much of an improvement could, should or would I expect! Please put my curiosity to rest, and no be shame... go ahead..... put up pictures of this plug inhancement, reconstrution, butchery or what ever you want to call it!! Much Mahalo's & Aloha to each and all of you!! The one and only DOUBLE-CLUTCH!! ( Please excuse my spelling.... it sucks rotten eggs!!!) P.S Anybody got an asperin..... I've givin myself a headache!!! :D  :smash:  :jester :seeya :flag
I remember someone asking about this once before. A reply referenced this website http://www.geocities.com/jgkov/CutPlugs.html that has some info and a picture of a cut plug. Hope this helps.
I can't say if this mod alone gave me a gain because I did in in conjuction with a couple other things, but the combo of this and some other minor mods gave me a nice gain in the 1/4 (over .3 and 3 mph)
I will do it later after the new tranny is tested. I would hate to post a 8 MPH increase and .3-.4 tenths the next time I go to the track! I think it would be a bit misleading! :D
I am also going to do underdrive pulley after I get it ironed out and see what kinds of gains those yeild. I may also run it uncorked. They should be interesting to see.
Thank's guy's for the overwelming response!! on the cut plug mystery ( to me anyway! ) Free beer or what ever you folk's drink to all of you!! ( If or when you visit Hawaii! ) Aloha & Mahalo Nui Loa !! :seeya
Years ago I read about this mod in two books and have been running cut-back plugs in the '86 IROC and now in the '88 Vette.
I have time slips with trap speed corrected for weather conditions that shows a solid 1mph gain with this mod. You won't likely feel this free (or any other) 10hp gain with a SOTP dyno but will see it at the strip.
I realy haven't seen any excessive spark plug wear though you might expect them to not last quite as long. So that 10 HP gain isn't realy "free"; you will have to change plugs a little more often.
BTW, I'll buy the beer if you'll supply the air ticket., Aloha.
Man!! The way that car looks with those mods that you've already done to that car, and wanting to do more... I'll be surprised that you'll be able to keep it on the ground, you might need to get pilot's license and not worry about avoiding the traffic on the ground, but in the ski's!!!! :jester :) :D
