Default Dash problems

I have got an 86 and the dash will just wink out. Hit a bump and comes back on. In the daytime I can still see the readouts to dirve, but at night I need a flashlight. Need help on this people.

Sounds like a loose ground somewhere. I don't have the link to the repair page here at work, but I'm sure somebody will have it. :)

You might also visit http://corvette1984.freewebtools.com/weblink.html which has a section on repairing the digital dash...

There are 2 circuit boards in the cluster and they plug into each other by a single row of pins. The pin closest to the center of the board carries the lamp current and the rear board (from front of car) has the sockets whose spring gets age relaxed making for some connection resistance and the lamp current through it makes it hot until it finally unsolders the front board pin. Your dash goes on and off when the pin is joggled and touches the circuit board conductor. Resoldering the pin will not work, but a permanent cheap repair is to install a short insulated hookup wire between the pin and the socket . Good luck.

Mine does it too, i havent resoldered the connections inside the unit. But, when i replaced the 4 light bulbs, it now stays on almost all the time, unless i hit a really bad bump.

I would replace the bulbs first, part is Sylvania 882.
