Default Accssory Whistle Identification

Hey all,

I have just started getting a an accessory whistle and cannot identify it.

When the car is running if I turn the steering wheel I do not hear an increase in the whine/whistle. Additionally if I turn on the A/C the whine/whistle gets just a little bit louder, guessing because of increased belt load. A/C blows cold still.

Could be tensionor but when I turn the car off the sound whistles almost like a bleed off valve, but I am lost I don't know what this is or where it is coming from.

As always I greatly appreciate the insight from all in advance.

Could a water pump cause this kind of noise with the buildup of pressure and bleed off after the car has been turned off?

The water pump is new with less that 3000 miles on it but it was a cheap pump. So I am starting to wonder if if could be a water pump problem?

Car temps seem fine but I am getting a definite belt slip type noise and cannot identify where it is coming in from.

The key is the pressure build up and bleed off after the car is turned off, I am at a loss as I don't know what could cause that symptom.

Thanks Phil

Never heard anything like that from a water pump? Vacuum line? I ran my 93 without the belt to see if the noise i heard was coming from one of the pullies and it went away so i replaced them both. Took care of the squeaking. Good luck

Think I found it, in troubleshooting I replaced the tensioner pully as there was bearing slop in it.

But as I started the car to check if issue was resolved the noise came back but this time I was looking at the correct location. The hose that goes to the passenger valve cover from the throttle body is collapsing under vacuum, I am curious if I can simply replace with host with a PCV in the valve cover and a cap on the throttle body? Otherwise I need to find something to stuff in the hose to keep it from collapsing.

I didn't realize you could get that much vacuum out of the motor, that is a 3/8 or larger diameter hose.

I appreciate the insight you guys can offer on if I can remove that hose in lieu of a PCV or if the hose must be fixed/replaced.

Thanks,
Beer Me!

That hose pulls filtered air out of the throttle body and supplies it to the crankcase, where it is sucked out through the PCV valve and into the intake manifold. The key word here is "filtered".

Default Collapsing hose

We've all seen springs in radiator hoses to keep them from collapsing. Assuming you don't go for a new hose, might something like that work for your situation?
