I've manned up and been financially "punished" for three years afterwards!
Never again. I'll fight the charges for a traffic violation.

Maximum speed limit out in the desert is 75mph. Arizona Revised Statute exceeding 85mph is criminal speed. Maximum fine $500 + 85% court fees. 30 days imprisonment max.

The last Corvette club meeting there were 2 guys from Payson in attendance. They both drove C6's modified. 700HP the other over 500HP. They made it to the meeting in 39 minutes. that's just over 80miles away. I warned them to be careful as I had just gotten my criminal speeding ticket that Wed. They sorta Just brushed my bad luck off and outta mind. I guess till you get caught its not reality.

C7 of the Year - Unmodified Finalist 2021
C4 of Year Finalist (performance mods) 2019
Not going to continue hijacking the original poster's thread.
An 89 with 43K needs to be driven. If you just bought this car, drive it a year before doing serious modifications.
I would not recommend an engine swap to LT/LS series engines. The Gen 1 SBC is fine. You'll have to spend money either way and it really depends on what you want from the car. If you're never going over 70mph yourself then I think you should just do the basic mods and maybe some intake/exhaust work and be done.

Getting back to the OP, 1.6 roller rockers and TPIS full length headers really woke up the car. A quality tune is essential as well so invest in the Moates autotune. If I'm rolling and gun it in 1st gear the tires now leave ghost stripes all through 1st and into 2nd. It will now rev up to 5500 RPM and beyond (I caught myself shifting at 6250 once). I don't have emissions check in FL so what I did may not be possible in your area. IMO,the stock exhaust manifolds and cats are boat anchors holding back a good SBC base engine from making power. I still have the stock intake and it's running well with it and I'm leaving that alone for now until I get some track runs under my belt.
My brother has a late model 5.0 Mustang and my Dad has a LS3 Camaro and they are in utter disbelief what the under-appreciated L98 is capable of with a few bolt ons and a tune.

You can rev a TPI til it pops and it still isnt making power over 4xxx rpm just noise and creating heat. When theres that big a restiction the bottom end meaning pins and rod bolts really feel it. Its like putting your finger over a straw and a vacuum on the other end.

The engine will now spin to that RPM where it wouldn't do that before. But at the same time, just because it can get up there, doesn't mean that it's making power becauase of the TPI limitations. I shift around 5000-5500 now and I'm pretty happy with the power delivery for regular driving.
When I get bored of this power level, I'll do the cam/heads/intake all together, but it may be a while.
