I have 94 LT1 with flowmaster mufflers. Sounds nice, a deep low rumble. Problem is at any decent speed I cant hear my stereo or have a conversation. I like the performance option of a good turbo but without all the noise. A muffler shop suggested switching to magnaflow. I also like the LT1 tips. Any ideas whats best to use without giving up HP and breaking the bank to get some piece of mind?
Thanks to All
My experience with axle-back MagnaFlows was disappointment at not much sound above stock when new, but over about 3 months, the sound increased along with the drone to an annoying level.

I went magnaflows had them on for 1 day and couldnt stand the drone. running in D helped but not much. I went back took them off and put on some new stock and WOW alot better. Corsa might be the way to go but some serious coin for that. I say go with an aftermarket stock you wont be dissappointed
Look into Dynomax, I hear they make a good no drone muffler. I had a set years ago and they were pretty quiet and make a nice rumble when you get on it.
Is the stock sound good and not crazy at hwy speeds?
My exhaust is stock and it's pretty quiet, there's no bark or roar even at full throttle, just a nice deep rumble that's not too loud, coming from the engine itself more than the exhaust. There's plenty of power and torque across the RPM range. I like it a lot. But I prefer the subtle sound of the stock exhaust -- more power would be great but not at the cost of extra noise, and I don't need extra attention beyond what the car naturally draws. I enjoy the car the way it is and I can think of other things I'd rather spend hundreds on.
It just depends what you want, and how you define a "good" exhaust sound.

Dynomax superturbo.
They used to make one specific for lt1 That came with lt1 Tips.
Stock mufflers neck down and are a restriction on modd cars.
That said, I liked the stock lt1 Muffler sound at wot
Eatmydst1234 does your LT1 exhaust still have its original cats and resonator still on? I have a 92 LT1 with Flowmasters that sounds great except for the drone when the convertible top is on. My cats and resonator are original would like to get rid of the drone if muffler eliminators really work.
First off these are 2.5" narrower pipes than your stock lt1 2.75" exhaust.
I dont believe there is an x pipe.
Despite being smaller diameteer, they dont save you any weight.
When I first joined cf in 2001, Corsa sold for $895. Now the price is double, and im not aware of any product improvements that they have made since then.
It has a higher pitch sound thatg makes the car sound like it has a smaller displacement motor. I prefer a real low rumble.
All this said, I do remember a bunch of dynographs (around 2002 Timeframe) of people showing a 15 Rwhp power increase with corsa vs. stock lt1 exhaust on an otherwise stock lt1

My experience with two C4 is that any muffler [except the Corsa] with TWO outlets per muffler is a drone problem.
I have Borla units, which are a straight through design and are not chambered at all . made my ears bleed at 1800 rpm. I plugged one outlet and the drone stopped right then.
The other has Moroso 98 DB racing mufflers, with an X pipe. Two exhaust pipes . Not all that loud and zero drone.
Look at the stock mufflers, two outlets are for show?
And nobody bitches about stock mufflers droning... got be something tho this?
Try it it and see? not much to lose if your changing?
I have never heard of muffler eliminators eliminating a drone.
Were you using the specific lt1 Dynomax superturbo or universal fit dynomax superturbo ?
Its quite possible there is a difference.
Were they old (ie. rusted inside)?
Its well known here that dynomax superturbo lt1 Corvette mufflers are drone free and fairly quiet.
I believe user plrx used to run these but removed them because they were too quiet. so he'd likely agree with me.
I'm not sure if the ones that use to be on my car were C4 specific as they were on it when I got the car, however my old car had them, still a c4, and it droned with them too. Auto trans at around 35-50 under load. They were too quiet too. I haven't noticed any drone with my elims and they have been on all year.
