Hi all, need some help. I am looking at buying this. is the install as simple as removing my stock one and bolting this on? anything else I need to know? Will it give be any difference?
i could be wrong, but the stock intake is designed to take in cold air from the bottom and has a aerofoil for that, and the stock filter and box has quite a large surface area
i dont see a aftermarket intake/filter performing better
the main restriction in the intake system is the excessively long runners, and the intake baseplate and heads could be better
Not much room in front of the radiator shroud either. Good luck on getting it to fit. I think most people will say its not really worth changing the filter box.
Get headers and better exhaust for your 85. I gutted my cat and it really woke it up. My next step is going to be a new engine. I autocross with NCCC so I'll be keeping the TPI and trying to squeeze as much out of it as possible to stay in my class.
just 1 cat on the 85. I just took it off and used a steel pole to crush and bang out the honeycomb inside. When I bought my 85 I could not (stock tires) go from dead stop and spin tires. Now with 315 on rear I have to be very careful. I also bumped my timing way up and increased fuel pressure a bit. I think I only went up a few psi on pressure, but my timing (92/93 premium fuel) I run at the top of the scale, 14* advanced.

I have the vortex rammer air intake...piece of crap....eventually going to go back to stock. the filters in your pic look a little small to me....there's probably a better system out there than stock, someone surely will know, but I know its not vortex rammer....
looks like you will need an straight extender piece and a 45 degree piece to get over the radiator for it to work properly, this is how i set my 85 up,
