Default Fuel pump not working

Fuel pump for my 87 Z52 seems to be not working, pulled the in line filter (new) and only getting a slow drip at all times, is there anything i should check or is the fuel pump just bad?

put a pressure guage on the fitting on the fuel rail. turn the key on...pressure should go right up....or listen at the tank...it should run for 2 sec....better to test the pressure..so you know you have enough

The FP only runs for a couple seconds when you turn the key to the ON position. You should be able to hear a faint clicking at the rear of the car when the ignition switched is turned on.

Did you check fuel pressure with filter hooked up?

Will the engine start?

Can you hear the pump run?
Put 12V to terminal G of the ALDL under the dash ,the pump should run full time so you can do the pressure tests mentioned above.

If you confirm the pump is running and have little /no pressure at the rail, then you may have a leaking hose in the tank that
connects the pump to the line out

How hard would it be to replace the fuel pump and how is it done?
i have a spare fuel pump unit from a northstar cadillac eldorado thats around 45PSI, but do the C4s require a specific fuel pump or can they be used interchangeably

actually went ahead and did it
the N* cadillac fuel pump fit in without too much trouble or modifications

had to change the pigtail due to a different design, and it was a little taller and slimmer, but it worked and i got the car started up
going to need a new gasket though since the original fell to pieces, probably going to use RTV sealant

actually upon further research the northstar fuel pump produces 70PSI and 40-45 at the rail which makes it a good replacement for the stock L98 fuel pump
this might be useful to other people with the same problem

The stock pump produces roughly 55 - 60 PSI.

The pressure you see at the fuel rail is a result of the fuel pressure regulator dropping the pressure.

Unfortunately i seem to be having problems again

I can test the pump (12V to pin G) and hear the pump run and relay click and get fuel pressure, but otherwise i am getting no power to the pump otherwise even though the fuse is good

If you crank the engine for approx. 5 sec. the fuel pump should run through contacts of the oil pressure sw..

This is for my 84 but s/b the same for yours..

tried cranking it for 10sec
nothing, no fuel pressure

could it be that the oil pressure switch is bad?

It would mean both the relay and the switch are bad.. I would be checking the fusible link that puts 12v to relay terminal E and the switch..

where is that at?

also considering just running a toggle switch and mounting it in the center console from one of the 12V wires under the dash to the fuel pump
