What front seal would you be referring to? The front oil pan seal, the timing cover gasket, the crank seal in the timing cover? If you just seeing an oil leak at front of engine, it could also be the seal for the optispark in the timing cover, or the water pump seal in the timing cover, or it could be an intake leak. Verify where the leak is first. You don't want to do the oil pan for it to be timing cover or one of the three seals in the timing cover. The intake is the most common on LT1's and it will run down timing cover and look like oil pan.
Sorry I should have clarified. I am talking about the crank seal in the timing cover.
Although I am having a miss issue that has lead me to believe that I have a opti going out with only 500 miles on it... I can see fresh oil on the passenger side of the optI and on the plug for the opti on the passenger side so I now think the seal for the opti is leaking and the oil is the cause of the opti failure. What I am wondering is if the opti/timing cover seal is enough to allow oil to run down the engine and drip on my garage floor?
Tomorrow I am going to tear it apart and clarify whatvthe issue is. This is a brand new engine with all brand new parts. There shouldn't be any leaks
And no the intake is not leaking down the front. I checked that over very well. What I dont understand is how oil gets in the opti plug and all around the top of the opti.

That would be from the oil seal at the water pump. The crank seal is a pia to replace, mine leaks from there too, but not enough to concern me yet.
It absolutely can, but I would clean out the connector first, that can cause a miss by itself.
SON OF A GUN!!! Thanks eatmydts! I went out and started the car and held a flashlight up as far as I could to see the waterpump drive seal and then I reved the car up and sure enough, there is a small stream of oil spraying dirrectly onto the top of the opti. It looks like the seal was rolles when the machine shop installed the seals in the timing cover. That explains the oil leak I had and drops on the floor over night and now the failed opti. There is a upside to this tho, the machine shop is paying for my new msd opti and the crank seal is not leaking as I originally suspected.

There is a special tool for installing that seal. What I did was I took one of my 3/8 snap on sockets that tapered and oiled the seal and slid the seal onto the socket, and the socket, was the same diameter as the water pump coupler. I slid the seal onto the coupler and put the coupler in place slid the seal into place. That is an easy one to get wrong.
Yup. I watched some youtube videos. I think I will make a tapperd sleeve at work tonight to slide the seal on with. If not, I will use the socket idea! Thank again.
