There are so many possibilities. If you have never worked on a car before, like diagnostic work, not just DIY stuff, the answers you receive here will probably be pretty useless. You should start with a basic spark and fuel diagnosis, and test compression as well. Then I would start testing things that can affect air/fuel ratio.

If you have never done this stuff before, I suggest just bringing it to the shop.

If that's the case you should be posting this thread in the C5 forum as well.

I thought this too after I re read it and saw the part about the exhaust tone being quieter, but was too lazy to respond at the time. lol

Good place to check though, unbolt your exhaust from the manifold, and take out the y pipe, then take it for a ride. If your power comes back somewhat then you found your problem. Had a similiar problem like this on my friend's 86 Z28.

If you get a check engine light just reset it.

Exhaust becoming quieter is a sure sign of the air/fuel mix going leaner. Unplug your MAF sensor and see if runs different or better. I would be willing to bet this is either MAF sensor or Fuel injectors. You should test each one of your injectors with a multimeter. Test for ohms.

ok guy im really thank full for all the help, a few things i just notice when i was out side fooling around with the car....one of my spark plugs had a hole burn in it so the spark was shooting out the side of the wire! dont know if this would cause that much loss in power.

Raw fuel kills cat.conv. quick, the "honey comb" type converters can be restricted in a short time from unburned fuel. When the spark jumps out of wire to ground, the fuel sprayed by injector passes unburned into exhaust. If it is up stream of O2 sensor, O2 will send rich signal to ecm which in turn reduces fuel to engine. You need to deal with spark plug and wire(s) soon as you can. I would suggest check converter after that,
