I am getting the melrose pipes...don't mean to be stupid but why do I need switched power.??? for the heat??/...and as long as I''m being stupid...what's a AFR?....I really appreciate the information I get on this site..been restoring this 85 and want to do it the right way with good stuff.... Paul
These are not stupid questions. Good choice on the pipes. You might put some thought into how your A/C and alternator brackets will install with the Melrose headers. If I recall correctly, the Melrose headers do not have the standoffs for the bolts like the stock manifolds. Deleting the brackets is not a good idea.
You use switched power so that the O2 sensor is heated only when the ignition is on. Otherwise your battery would go dead pretty quick.
AFR is air/fuel ratio. The sensor for an AFR gauge is much like an O2 sensor and installs in the same way. AFR gauges are very helpful for performance tuning.

thanks for the great information....both ideas sound great. everything seems to get complex with this car but the forum keeps me on the straight and narrow working on it...I appreciate everyones input. I'm retiring soon and so this 85 will be my last vette....I want to build it strong so it will last....(and continue to blow the doors off my wife's mustang) Paul
