Default 85 security

My alarm went off when my back window was shattered by some bastard. I did not shut it off since by the time I heard it and got to the car the alarm had shutoff by itself. Now the security light does not blink nor does my horn work. The car does start. Tried working the key lock with no luck and disconnected the battery for 5 minutes with no luck.

When should the security light come on and how do I reset the system?

Check the fuse behind the DIC in the center of the dash. I bet it is blown.

DIC = Digital information Center. Idiot lights. You need to remove the bezel in the middle of the dash and then remove the idiot light cluster(4 bolts, I think), behind it you will find a fuse and the horn relay. I'm betting the fuse is blown. It only takes a minute. Let me know if you need more info or how it turns out. Guy

That crap of an 'alarm' was the first thing I 'fixed' in my vette. Was going off all the time and not letting me start the car for minutes.. Soo glad I killed it. ;-)

Found the fuse and it was blown, however, the security system still does not arm. What next?

All works! Thanks for your help. What a goofy place to pu the horn fuse!
I've found that this forum is better than any manual.

Got back window replaced under my window insurance - 100% coverage. It happened a couple days prior to Memorial Day week-end and I was fortunate that after calling several window companies Glass Doctor was able to find a window and installed it the next day. So, I had the vette for the week-end.
