I have a '94, and when I drive in stop and go traffic with the A/C off when it's 95+ degress outside, my water temp gauge bounces back and forth between 220 and 230. My oil temp gauge, on the other hand, sits at 215 and barely moves.
Is this typical? Or has a previous owner diddled the water temp sensor so the fans kick in sooner e.g. when my gauges (and the fans) think the water temp is 230 it's really somewhat lower? Shouldn't the oil temp be higher than the water temp?
