i just installed the accel/lpe intake/plenum and runners. first i must say for the money they did a terrible job with the craftsmenship. i also installed 24# accel injectors with an AFPR. my problem is when i start the car the idle surges and shuts off when u rev it a little. if i get on the gas hard it clears up and runs smooth and high rpm but at low it shuts off and bucks. anyone have any suggestions? what should my fuel pressure be at for this set up? my service engine soon light comes on at times too. please help me!!!! i will be greatly appreciative with any advice.
not exactly sure but if timing was off the car would still be smooth. (my friend did the timing) the car idles rough and when u accelerate it gets smoother. but it just keeps shutting off. i dont know what to set the fuel pressure to either.
Start with timing at 6* BTDC and go from there. If he didn't remove the EST wire before setting the timing it might be messing it up.
Are the injectors GM or Ford? Ford injectors are rated at a different PSI so they actually give out a little more fuel I think than at the stock GM PSI. Is your fuel pressure regulator the stock one? If so the fuel pressure at idle will be around 27psi and 37.5psi at WOT.
I just did a superram install on my car a couple months ago, fun aren't they? :)
dont ask... this thing is the biggest abortion ive ever seen lol. i got the accel 24#s from summit. and i have an after market regulator. the egr is supposed to be bypassed right? and the instructions they send are for the plenum/runners only... maybe i screwed somethin up on the intake? can u recall any important steps in this install? i really appreciate the help SCORP
Lets see. You have a 91, so there is no cold start injector to block off like I did.
I used some RTV on both sides of the gaskets JUST to make sure.
Your car needs you to hook up on the back...
MAP Sensor bracket.
MAP Sensor
Brake Booster Vacuum Line
HVAC Vacuum Line
AIR Vacuum Line (Optional if you removed the equipment.)
Also do not forget to put the MAT sensor in the bottom of the plenum, or at least put a pipe plug in its place if you moved it to the air box.
I used thread sealer on all of the fittings on the back and the mat sensor.
The worst problem with the SR is that there is a vacuum leak somewhere. Make sure you tightened everything properly (but not overly) and used sealers where needed.
Are you running the stock ECM program? It'll run, but won't be entirely pretty or get you all the results you need.
As for EGR, you don't have to block it off, but you can (mine is right now).
i am running the stock ecm program.
still not sure what fuel pressure to set the AFPR to.
unfortunately all of us are ford guys lol.
i was very unhappy with the fit of the larts, especially the plenum to the runners. im ready to rip the motor out and put in somethin new at this point. i finished the install yesterday, had to a few ateps tice. and im very aggrivated. im hoping one of my friends will be able to fix it before i start spending serious money lol
The first time I installed my Super Ram, I put the runners on the wrong side. I guess I got in too big of a hurry which is a huge mistake with a Super Ram. Check your runners. They will bolt up to either side, but create a huge vacuum leak if on the wrong side.
That's a possibiliy. However the SR is going to run poorly with a stock chip even without a vac leak. It needs a new program to go with the intake.
Been there, done that.
I'll _partially_ agree with that. My superram on the stock motor ran pretty poorly initially...it DID figure out how to use it after 5-10 miles though.

It may idle eventually, but the stock SD fuel and spark maps are useless for the SR. Until you change them, it's_going_to_be_a_doggy.
I will agree with the fit and finish. Even following all the hints provided by the forum, it is still a bear. I will agree with the 42 pressure with the vacumn off the pressure regualtor for a start. My lid wouldn't even bolt on, the holes were misaligned. I had to redrill the lid holes in 6 places to make them larger in one direction on both sides (and it wasnt even installed yet). :cry .While I am complaining, they didn't send the plugs or the proper size/ length bolts. I had to have them send them after complaining. I also used thread sealer on plugs. On my 1990, I flipped the MAP bracket upside down and cut off the locating tab, so that I could access the vacumn hoses on back of manifold. Your surging at low idle is probably a vacumn leak. Take a propane torch (don't light it), and turn it on low. then point nozzle around anywhere the plenumn could leak. If the engine increases idle, then you have found your leak. Good Luck!

I don't think the stock ECM even realizes that a tachometer can actually go over 5000 RPM. :)
Actually, the Ecm wasn't a big deal, the slushbox was! It figured there was no possible way the motor could be making power over 5200 and would shift prematurely.
Holding the tranny back manually netted a significant increase in power output. :p:
And yes, I had to widen two holes on the boxtop too. :mad
Having doen it (R&R) five different times, you don't know how angry you can get until you cross thread a bolt on that last reinstall. RTV and a heavy hand and I'll retap it if it ever comes apart again.
Wouldnt a vac. leak cause a fast idle situation? I couldnt get mine to idle at less then 2000 RPM, then I found a small vac leak..... that 3/4" hole where the brake booster fitting goes.. heh
