Default Solved my blinker issue

So, a few days ago I installed a new flasher. Yay it works. I took the car out tonight since the wife needed some things and noticed that the right turn signal indicator is solid and blinks only when I turn it on then goes back to a solid green. If I turn the headlights off, everything is fine. Head lights on and it stays lit.. wtf.... Any advice here?

Below is a video of what I am talking about. I did this with the lights on and off as you can see.

Check all your bulbs. I had a few cars that the inside blinker would stay solid if a bulb is out. Its free to check.

Bulbs in the dash or the whole car? Why would this only happen when the headlights are on? Sorry for all the questions, I am on the quest to learning how to do stuff myself.

Your issue is normally a ground problem suggest cleaning the bulb bases & sockets.

Good thing its not April 1st you might get advice on checking for low blinker fluid.

Have fun.

The bulbs in the lights on the outside of the car.

The bulbs involved have dual filaments. In the front, parking and blinker. On the side, side warning and blinker. In the back, tail light and brake light.

Sometimes one filament breaks and shorts to the other one. Then you get the symptom you describe or the side with the bad bulb will blink really fast.

Got it, I got a major tune up tomorrow with a friend of mine. Will take care of everything I know of. By the way, thanks Cliff. You seem to help me on every question I have. I am slowly being able to handle things on my own.

So i swapped the bulbs out, both of them. Turn signals still work as always but the right amber bulb for the park light still doesn't illuminate despite a new bulb. So my next guess is a faulty ground?

Sorry, can't help you there. I have no expertise in that area. Most of my knowledge I picked up by fixing stuff that broke or wore out or something like that.

The only exterior bulbs I have ever replaced were the headlights and the high mount brake lights (now LEDs, so that will never happen again). All the rest of my bulbs are the originals and they're all still working fine.

Crud, well I guess I am going to check the entire harness if possible. Not sure where the grounds are for the front park/signal lights. If anyone knows, please tell.

So I was looking at all the lights again. Other than the front amber one on the passenger side I noticed that the front side markers on each side of the car have one amber each. Does the clear marker have a bulb as well? If they do, those are not illuminated and may need replaced.

Below is a picture of what I am talking about. This isn't my car but is just what I am trying to point out.

The clear marker behind the amber.

Well that shot that idea down. I don't really look forward to messing with wiring harnesses and looking for grounds.

My guess is your headlights are robbing the turn signal circuit from getting a good ground.. on my 95 there are two cluster's of ground wires, both Left side, and right. Near the Clam shell hinge's, when I checked mine the self tapping bolt was loose on the R/H side And I was getting a poor ground to the Fog light.

I will take a look today when the light is abundant. I really hope it is a ground as a few of you have said.

I had the same problem. It was the ground on the socket. The ground wire will enter the socket on the side. It was loose and I was able to push it in for a temporary fix and later replaced the entire socket with aftermarket.
Hope this helps,
John

Thanks sir, that was the problem. I pulled the socket out and fiddled with it and got it to come on. Not sure if it is the wires leading to the socket, or the socket itself but that fixed it! I will replace the socket when I order new Door Ajar switches. Thanks everyone.

Socket can be purchased at local auto parts. Pretty generic to Chevrolet and General Motors. Used in many years and models of cars.
