I'm trying to attempt the dreaded heatercore removal and can't quite get the core cover off. I got 4 screws off and it moves but won't drop off completely. I'm following fastguy's method but I still can't seem to figure it out. Did I miss a screw on the cover somewhere?
Right side when laying upside down? But seriously I have looked everywhere and can't find this extra one. I guess I should mention it's a 90 and I haven't taken the dash out. I've only taken the panel off and moved some wires around to get those screws off. Does the dash absolutely have to come out in these 90's?

Unfortunately, yes and you have to take the defroster ducting loose so you can remove the cover to get at the heater core. When I did mine I had to remove a brace that runs from the center of the dash to the right side. I feel your pain.
I guess there's no way around it then. I was going to just take it in and have someone do it but my dad just had to say "I replaced all my heater cores myself"
So my first step to under taking this job is finding a doctor that can write a prescription just for replacing a heater core
I have a 30 page document in PDF format, with photo's, for the removal procedure. I did this on my '87 convertable. If you want a copy, send a request to cesmachines@yahoo.com
Agent 86 posted a picture of the heater core housing in his thread on replacing the heater core. It shows where the screws are located:
Thanks for the pic! Although mine looks slightly different than that one. On that one it shows two screws on top that would be almost impossible to reach without taking the dash off but on mine I have four of them off without taking the dash off.
