Default Strange pke problem

I have a 96 lt4 convertible. The other day I pulled into my office drive way and the PKE unit went crazy. The PKE light flashed several times and the locks clicked on and off several times. Needless to say the fob stopped working.
Here’s what I’ve done so far
Changed the fob battery with 3 new batteries.
Disconnected the car batter.
And of course followed the reset direction in the manual.
The fob kind of works. When I press the fob button I can hear the lock motors click and the interior lights come on. Also, if I manually lock the doors the fob will unlock the passenger side door.
Yes I’ve done the search but haven’t seen this type of problem. I did notice in one of the searches the question was asked if the PKE like comes on when the key was turned on…mine doesn’t
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Mike

The light does not come on with the key, so it may be turned off. You never really explained what your current problem is. What exactly does the fob do now? Lock when you walk away? Unlock when you approach the car? If not, again it may be turned off. Try turning it on. It's in your owners manual, but basically, with the key out of the ignition, stand next to the drivers door and hold down the door button (I guess you only have one button) for five or ten seconds. Wait for a clank-clank sound like it locked and unlocked the doors. If you hear that sound see if it works OK now.

That did it!
The strange part is before this incident if I pressed and held down the button it would cycle in a couple of seconds. Now it takes a full 10 seconds to cycle.
Thanks for the help

PG-LT4;,

Check and see if your door ajar switches are operating correctly.

If they stick or are (or becoming) electrically compromised, it can also cause the PKE to act up.

FYI, the door ajar switches send an electrical signal to the CCM, but the CCM sends digital signal to the PKE computer.

Also, the FOBs have a 'sleep' feature to conserve the battery.

The FOBs have a small ball bearing inside a small metal housing which if dirty will not 'wake-up' the FOB and could be causing the symptom of delayed operation.

If you open the FOB, you'll see the metal housing which can be carefully removed and the inside area cleaned (alcohol and q-tips).

Got it!
My hinges and door rubber are getting a little old. In fact in the cold temps the door will ajar when I leave my drive way in the morning. That’s my next area to repair this coming spring.
The fob is in pretty good shape. I had it rebuilt last summer.
Thanks for the suggestion
