Hey guys,
Finishing up the engine build on my 95 LT1. It's a 383 Stroker with ported heads/valves, full exhaust, headers, bla, bla, bla. Should be upwards of at least 420 hp. Anyway, before the 383 rebuild, I had a ring go bad I believe, and was having serious vacuum/crankcase pressure issues. There weren't any vacuum leaks at that time. I believe the ring went because the engine already had 110,000 miles, and then I decided to do a cam/heads/exhaust job on it, and it just wasn't up to the task. So my question is......
At what point should one decide on getting a vacuum pump, and what are the options out there (electric vs belt-driven). Just curious what the future may hold.....
..... Very helpful info on the link ... useful for stock engines ........ performance cams have increased duration and overlap which will decrease the vacuum readings at idle ... a vacuum pump or reservoir is needed when the reduced vacuum at idle and low engine speeds starts to affect the performance of the brake booster and the braking action ..........
Great info there! I don't know why my sig isn't showing, but my cam is a lunati 243/251 .597/.603 110 lsa. I can imagine this much overlap causing an issue. With my old 224/230 it didn't affect the breaks too badly. I just had major blowby issues. I'll report back in a month when I get it all put back in my car
I thought you were talking about a vacuum pump for the engine...
I don't think you will have any power brake issues with that cam. I run something similar in my 92 and have plenty of power brakes with the stock booster.
