I am posting this for a buddy of mine. He has an 88 Callaway. He recently was driving the car nad got a code which showed to be a Voltage too high on the MAF. He replaced the MAF and it worked for a few days, then did the same thing. He replaced the MAF again, and then replaced the burnoff relay and some other MAF power relay. He drove the car for two days and the car threw another code.
Code 33?
Did he erase the code by disconnecting the battery(negatie) for a minute after replacing all the parts? If not,try erasing the stored code and go for a test drive.
Other suspects is TPS signal erratic and possible faulty ECM problem.
Also,DO check the green wire on the MAF connector for breakage or problems.
Re: MAF issues... Voltage too high code. (Bill's86Coupe)
I do not know which code. He said the car threw a "MAF Voltage too high" and then went into limp home mode. Each time he has "fixed it" the cars runs great for a few days, then throws a code and goes to running like poo-poo.
As I understand it he cleared the codes by pulling the battery leads.
I will pass along the other tips. If anyone else has any ideas, please let me know.
Sounds just like my intermittent MAF problem, turned out to be the ECM. I changed my relays two times, and then my MAF, then finally the ECM and it fixed it for sure, car runs better than when I bought it after the new (reman) ECM. Also fixed my 500 to 900 RPM idling problem and intermittent low coolant light.
About $110 with core return, got mine at Carquest, 1 yr warranty.
