Default Yank torque converter

I am thinking about putting a Yank SS 3200 TC in my stock, for now, 1996 base convertible.

Does anyone have any experience with this set up. Future changes may include Edelbrock LT 4 upgrade kit.

I have a good friend (CF member 93 ragtop) that has that Yank converter behind a 460RWHP 383 LT4 I built for his 93 Vert earlier this year.

His is a pretty tight converter. You hardly notice it's there at all. Foot brakes a little over 2000RPM currently. With 3.73 rear gear it's been 11.0's in the 1/4 mile. I personally feel it could stand to be loosened up about 1000RPM but he's already way too fast for a car with no bars in it.

He had the same converter in the car with the stock bottom end that had ported TEA LT1 heads and a Hot Cam. With a 4.09 rear gear it went 11.60's in the 1/4 mile.

Overall it's a good converter. Very good street manners as long as you have a little rear gear.... it's going act different if you have 2.59 rear gear but as long as you have at least the 3.07 it'll be fine with the stock engine and later wity the top end package you want to put on it.

When you get ready to do the top end send me a PM... I can do much better than the Edelbrock stuff for the same or less $$$.

Thank you for the info. Rear end is 3.07.

Any engine changes will not be until late 4/14. Business considerations.

My friends want me to get into bracket racing with them. The vette is a good weather, fun, car.

I've never done track racing until this year. When I was a kid I was a street racer in So Cal. "let's find a stoplight and go" type of thing.

Do you have a web site?

Thanks Again

No web site. I have enough tire kickers just by word of mounth and I turn away far more physical work than I take in. I do still take time to help anybody that needs it with advice, parts or whatever.

I totally understand other things come before building an engine for racing.... I have no reason to think I won't still be a member here next year when you get ready to do your top end.

Feel free to check out these threads of my work.

In recent memory I also help a guy on here with a heads and cam deal for a stock bottom end where I made him some parts recomendation got him a cam from my cam grinder and he assembled everything... Once he took the time do everything right it turned out and ran good.

In a direct answer to your question.... YES I've have the Yank 3200 in my 95 LT1 with a few other mild mods for thousands of miles and just love it. No problems what so ever

As Will said, I have the 3000 yank. Cant remember the model, but its billet, and its a 10in. converter.
When mine was bone stock, I changed the rear from 2.59 to 3.54. Ran a best of 13.17 at 105.xx mph.
Rebuilt the transmission with all stock parts, and no shift kit. We installed the yank at that time. Ran a best of 12.91
Keep in mind these are all on stock wheels and mitchlin pilot tires. No drag radials at that time. I think my 60ft time was 1.7x with the converter and with the stock converter it was 1.9x
The converter is different from stock. But if you give it the gas lightly you don't even notice there is a difference. Go full throttle and it really changes things.

Will I plan on starting to install Yank SS3200 TC and slp cold air intake and possibly a 58cc throttle body and straight through cats in the next week or two. Would you suggest any tranny upgrades.

Default Yank 3200 TC

I've had the Yank 3200 TC in my stock 96 convertible for about 3 mos. now and have had no problems. It shaved about .3-.4 seconds off my 1/8 mile time. It'll undoubtedly do better when we get the tires to hook.

EDGE converter is another option for less money and I couldn't be happier. Great owner to work with also.

After switching to 3:45's it want's to kick in/out overdrive at cruise speed around 40-45mph, I have to put it in low if it's going to be at that rpm/mph for any stretch of road. I have there 3,000 stall 9.5"
