Hi, my name is Jeff and I am new to the form. I am helping my brother on an 89 Corvette Convertible. The car is low mileage (55K) and is used primarily as a weekend toy. We have done several tune-up and small performance upgrades recently - new cap, rotor, plug wires, plugs, PCV, Ed Wright performance chip, 160* thermostat, new fuel fliter, cut airbox with K&N, etc. We have plans to add a Vigilante Torque convertor and some drag radials. We are hoping to improve significantly on the 14.22 at 96mph 'bone stock' run. Here is my question:
What is the BEST 'bang for the buck' exhaust system from the exhaust manifolds back. We won't be adding headers just yet, but will likely do so this summer sometime. I'm curious what to do with the pre cats, cats, etc - so the most complete answers as possible are appreciated. The car will NOT need to pass a smog test. Thanks in advance for all the help!
Depending on what he is looking for sound wise, the only true exhaust options that do not resonate would be to run muffler eliminators, though you wouldn't notice much gain by that, a Corsa system some gain but not what would be expected, or convert to an LT1 system including manifolds. The factory L98 exhaust manifold is very restrictive. If it were me I would find a take off system from a '92-'95 corvette LT1.
I did a CORSA Cat back system .... It sounds incredble and does not have any drone what so ever. The Cats are very restrictive on the vette of this time periord. I am now adding ARH headers with the X pipe .... After All i have read it is definitely the best way to go. I like the Corsa be cause of no Drone.
The Borla's sound great also but they drone, if its only a weekend toy that might be the way to go .....
