Default 87 Convertible hatch relay

Where exactly is the relay for this? I see the yellow button in the center console and have them on the sides of the doors but I never hear the solenoid engage when pressed. Trying to fix a few things up before I sell this car officially and this is a big one to me. Also, the cables that attach to the underside of the hatch, I got one that has a plastic part broken that attaches to the actual hatch, what's the part number for this? I can't find them on rock auto for some reason, or at least they look different...

Thanks

I don't have a convertible, so I can't be exact. I have heard that it is under the carpet in the passenger side rear of the rear compartment. You should be able to hear it clicking even if the hatch doesn't open.

The door switches don't work unless the door is open and the courtesy lights are on. They get their ground through the courtesy light delay module.

The yellow button in the center console only works if the trans is in Park or Neutral (automatics) or if the parking brake is on (manual transmissions).

Here's a fun fact: If you have an automatic trans, the yellow button gets its ground through the starter solenoid. You can't open the hatch while cranking the engine (I tested it).

Default Button and lever

I have an 86 convertible so I assume yours is pretty much like mine.
Pull the lever mounted to the bottom of the hatch and it will release the back of the soft top from the hatch. You can raise the window end of the soft top off the hatch. Now if you press the yellow button in the console the hatch will open so you can now stow the soft top under the hatch.

That's pretty much it.

I'm aware of how to operate the hatch, I can open and close it as much as I want manually, but none of the buttons work so I need to find the relay and solenoid and check them. The cable on the passenger side of the hatch is also busted due to the plastic piece being snapped off. I will take a look where you said Cliff for the relay, if I can find it great, if not, then I need to find someone with a service manual for an 87 convertible 4+3. I need to get in there anyways on the other side for the ABS unit.

I pulled the speakers on both sides since I needed to get to the ABS unit as well and didn't see anything other than one relay on the passenger side back there. I couldn't get it all the way out but I did give it a good scrubbing where I felt the contacts. ABS unit was corroded as hell too, cleaned that out and when I flip the key to "on" I can hear the unit engage back there. ABS still doesn't work though, when I start to drive the Anti-lock light still comes on (grumble grumble)... My next guess is one of the wheel sensors are plugged up or bad. I think im going to end up posting this car for sale, my neck and back can't handle this anymore. I'll just get a low mileage 90's C4.
