Default Oil Pressure?

Just wanted to know what oil pressure should be? My Vette runs at about 14psi at 700rpm and over 200 degrees. Is this normal?

My oil pressure seems to drop off at idle which is to be expected from my prior expereince with smallblock chevy engines. I have 90K on my '94 and was wondering what pressure you were running at idle also.

My analog guage sits about 1/4 at idle and just over 1/2 at about 1800-2000 rpm. Also - do you guys get a psi reading for oil on your digital guage? I only get water temp, oil temp, and volts. Is mine broke or do I need to do something else to get that display? Still without an owners manual.

Normal at cruise should be between 45-60psi and about half of that at idle. 14psi sounds a bit too low to me.

One Fourth of the guage, not 14

At cruising speed it sit a little over One Half of the guage.

Sorry - thought you were replying to my post. Didn't see the 14psi in the original posting. Still

30-40 at idle, and 60-70 on the gas.

Just wandering if the weight of oil used will affect the oil pressure much? I am using 5W-30 right now. Would changing oil weight help raise my oil pressure? Is this really a problem having low oil pressure? Seems that everyone has alittle different reading. My Vette also has about 130,000 miles on it. Thanks for all the replies!

Might raise it a little, but mine was the same with 10w30 and 5w30 and even 20w50. I think you might have a problem with the oil pump.

I would like to think that changing viscosity to 20/50 ought to have a noticeable effect on pressure...oh well

I have near 100,000 on my 88 and run Amzoil 20/50 Gold

At lowest, hot idle I run around 48 and at speed 68+

I also have several 305's with very high mileage and run straight 30 w. They all hold at least 30 psi at idle and 45+ at speed

Check your sending unit and your guage...14 would concern me

but then...what do I know :D

I changed my oil using 5w-30 and my pressure was way low, down to 6psi idle but at 40psi at cruise when oil temp was about 200f. I changed to 20w-50 and now I am at 20psi/idle and 38-42psi/gas same temp.
