It can be down with a 350, it's just not somthing you do for a street car. More of a show car or race car thing. Either something that sees limited miles or something that you aren't going to mind having to tear down ever year or so.
Who here would be interested in getting an iron 427 small block that fits the reverse cooling LT heads? This would be a 427 block, not a bored out 350 so the reliability would not be an issue. I have been toying with this idea for about 6 months and have talked to a few block manufacturers...it all comes down to demand...
Zix,
I would be interested, but it sounds like it would be EXPENSIVE!
Any idea of what something like that would cost?
Well, again, it really depends on demand. If I can find around 15-20 people that are interested I think that it can be done for around $2000-2200 for a properly machined block. I know that's not cheap, but it's really not that out of line for a really nicely made block. I don't want to quote any prices though until I get some more solid information. Drop me an e-mail and I'll keep you updated on the process.
I had that issue when it came out. That car is a hoss. I've heard people talk of him running around down in Houston. I don't know which makeover the car was currently in at the time, but I heard it was wicked fast. As far as reliabilty the fact that it's been gone through so many times is a real concern. Not to mention the fact that it's been beaten to death it's whole life. It was built to drive hard, and that's all it's seen. And as for the subframe connectors, I think they basically gutted it & installed a custom cage directly to the frame. That's what I can remember from the article & word of mouth in Tx. anyway. That cars got a rep down here. But I don't think anyone really wants the problems that go along with how the car got that rep.
I know that when Car and Driver made their 427" motor, it was based on a NASCAR 358 ci motor... not the LT1... and the motor was closer to 428, actually.
I believe Leingfelter sells a 350-427. Has 850 HP or so. But it is really expensive. Saw an article in Motor Trend. It did 0-100 in 4.3 seconds. Sounds like a dragster. But it can be done.
I have a clip of that vette running in the quarter. It ran a 9.7 at 145 I think, but I heard they had a best run of 9.2! , I have that vette magazine with the 1,100 HP C$. I thought it was a 421 block?
