I wrote weeks ago because my 1988 Corvette does not start sometimes (engine cranks but do not explode). Some of you recommended me to check the Assembly Line Diagnostic Link (ALDL) to retrieve an error code.
I am ashamed, but I am unable to find the ALDL conector...
I have read the info to get the codes and I understand it, but I do not find the conector. I think that it should be near my right knee when I am in the driver's seat, but must I remove something first, or is it directly visible???
Is it possible that my car has not an ADLD conector? Thanks!
Unless the link has been removed, it should be just under the dash about 6" in opposite your right knee. It is just a small rectangle open 'box', unless the cap is still attached. The cap is just a slip fit component.
This link shows the ALDL removed with jumper wires:
If someone took off the hush panel under the dash and didn't reinstall the ALDL connector correctly it can get pushed up in there. You might need to remove the panel to find it and reattach it.

I had to remove the panels and search for it. The PO had shoved it way up there and the connector was "hidden" on top of some other wiring.
If the screw stripped, the nut clip is missing or they just got plain lazy, the connector is probly just pushed up above the hush panel as mentioned. I cant imagine someone removing it.
