Default Question about the TB bypass mod.

I went out last night and bought the parts to do the Mod this weekend, but I got a couple of questions. Do I need to drain the coolant first? I know the two lines I have to take off have coolant running through them, but do they have residual when the car's not running and will just putting some rags around it work? Secondly, I heard someone say that you needed to drain some coolant fron the system after the Mod. This person specifically said a gallon. It didn't sound right to me. Any help?

I didn't drain my coolant when I did this mod. However, I did spill some.

If you drain enough to get the coolant level under the thermostat then you are fine. All it does is reduce the amount of coolant mess you may have under the car when doing this mod. You can do it without draining, but when you loosen the coolant hoses on the TB, it will drain some anyways. After you are done, just make sure you top off your coolant again.

I didn't drain any coolant from mine and not too much spilled out anyway. It's nice not having an opti-spark to worry about. :D I would suggest "packing" the radiator when done. Maybe top it off with Water Wetter. ;)

You don't need to drain anything. Just have plenty of rags on hand, and yes "pack" the system when done.
