I want to put new sun visors on my '89. I have them back-ordered. But for now, I just want to take the old, saggy ones off. Does anyone know if there is a way to do this without removing the entire upper windshield plastic panel? Where is the visor light connector? Inside or outside the plastic panel? Sheesh!

If you have lighted vanity mirrors in each sun visor...you will need to drop down the plastic trim so you can gain access to the connectors. they...along with the lighted rear view mirror are routed under the plastic trim...and sometimes they have been glued in place also...from what I have encountered.
The worst part is getting the old retainers off the studs of the sun visors. They are under tension due to the large spring that is under them. And the internal toothed retainers are "FUN" to get caged in place when installing the new sun visors.
Make sure you use a towel to cover them when caging them in place...so if you fail in getting them properly secured...and they fly off...you won't spend half the day trying to find them.
The clips are a real pain to get off. The visor shaft looks like it's threaded and you can just unscrew the clips. The shaft actually has grooves in it that are parallel to each other. The first time I did this I was able to pry up on the tabs of the star on the clips. The second time the clip was too tight and I couldn't get a tool under the tabs. I ended up breaking the clip (fortunately I had an extra one in my Corvette stuff box). This is what you're dealing with (broken clip on the left, spring retainer in the middle, spring on the right):
Putting the clip back on is actually pretty easy. I used a small deep socket with a 1/4" driver. The clip snaps into the grooves as you press down. I do agree with DUB that the clip can fly if the socket slips (been there, done that).
I removed mine completely. one of the best mods i ever did.
Sunglasses work for the sun set (or rise) glare
Im pretty tall and the visor was blocking my view...Once you take the visors off and see how much it opens up your view, you may never put them back on. That extra 3" opened up at the top makes a big difference for me.........WW
When I saw the attaching hardware and realized that I was more than likely going to break the washers, I went to plan B. As a test, I pulled the old visor off the steel rod. I held the visor with a clean towel along the bottom edge and pulled while twisting the visor. It doesn't come off easy but it does come off.
I took a $50 gamble and pulled the new plain driver side visor off its shaft and with a thin coating of silicone grease on the clean old shaft pushed the new visor on. I only gripped the bottom edge of the new visor so it wasn't bent or damaged going back on.
I still had to remove the plastic molding to connect the mirror lights but I was replacing the windshield weatherstrip at the same time so the molding was already coming off. Leaving the rod attached worked fine for me.
