Found some oil on the floor near the rear of the engine a few weeks ago. Took it to mechanic and had him look around while he was doing other things to the car. He tightened everything just for starters and put some dye in the crankcase in hopes of finding where it's coming from. It's not 'peeing', but rather a slow trickle leak. What are the best and worse case scenarios as to what this could be?
For me the worst case was the rear main seal; just had mine replaced with some tranny work. Hey, he had to drop the tranny anyhow. Although the front seal might be a lotta fun too.
I suppose the best case would be a problem with the drain plug not tight.
Use a flashlight and small mirror to check behind the dist where the intake base meets the block and at the oil pressure network.
A. Oil sending unit. It is at the back and when it goes bad it leaks a small amount of oil.
B. Rear silicon bead between intake manifold and block. This is a very narrow ridge and notorious for leaking on Later L98s.
