Default Looking for coil test specifications

I am wanting to test my coil on my 92 Base model and am looking for the acceptable range of resistance for the primary and secondary windings. Thanks..

Oddly the FSM for my 94 didn't have info on the resistance. So suggest doing an internet search for generalities.

However, if your trying to trouble-shoot a problem, suggest advising the problem and we might be able to help.

Also, remember there is a ICM (ignition control module) which when starting to fail can simulate coil failure.

If replacing, recommend only ACDelco brand, others have reported issues with other brands.

The ICM is bolted to an aluminum heat sink which is bolted to the passenger side head -- front side.

I would suggest some information about the ICM and heat sink is backwards -- the ICM is temperature compensating -- and needs the engine heat to correctly adjust its functions. The aluminum heat sink is to prevent extreme heat from getting to the ICM but still allow the ICM to maintain a similar warmth to the engine.

The ICM can be removed easily and taken to a local parts house (e.g. Autozone) as many of them have a tester for the ICM (and coils).

When re-installing the ICM, use ONLY heat sink paste on both sides of aluminum heat sink (head and ICM sides e.g. available from radio shack), -- DO NOT USE dielectric grease -- does NOT do the same thing.

I've always seen this image referenced when the question comes up. If you've a meter that will do measurements as high as 10K you should be good. After-market coils I understand generally do way less something 5 - 7K. You need to do cold and "hot" measurements I'd think and compare. If your meter won't do something as great as 10K you could use a resistor and then do the math.
