I bought the Mini Ram and the fuel rail kit for my '87. Everything was going together nicely untill I went to put the fuel lines on from the rails to the original system. The hard lines supplied exit the front of the manifold straight out. The old lines came out at a downward angle. Theres no way to get these guys to mate up. Just wondering what everyone else did here. I've got AN 6 b- nuts and ferrules to make up my own lines, but for the price of the kit I shouldn't have to make anything for this. Going to call TPIS and see what they've got to say and if I can return the unused lines for a refund.
On a brighter note, the Mini Ram looks real nice under the hood.
At least it wasn't just me with the problem then. I called TPIS and Jim said to send the lines back and he'll refund the differance.
Now looking at the lines, it looks like the fittings will be in the way of the IAC plug. I may just move farther back in the system and plumb from the next disconnect point. Looks like at the fuel filter.
Hopeing everything goes smooth from here on out. Thanks for the help guys.
Took the fuel lines out all the way back to the fuel filters. The return line will be easy to do. It has rubber hoses in and out of it to the hard lines. I'll run some 3/8 tube out to the FMU and then down to it and connect it to the hose. On the pressure side, I ran to Murray's and bought a repair tube that has the correct style flare to fit the filter side. I cut off the other end and put an AN6 b-nut and ferrule on, then flared it. Now all I have to do is install a union and run the #6 line up to the fuel rails. All the fuel line is at the back of the intake, and not running forward then back around like the factory stuff did. The only things I'm waiting on now is my ATI FMU that I have to fabricate into the system, and the return fuel filter from G.M. The guys at Murray's thought I was stupid when I asked if they had one in stock. They were looking at each other saying they never heard of a filter on the return side. Too bad I left it at home.
Finally got it done yesterday. Took a few turns of the key to get the lines primed, then fired right up. No water leaks, but had a little fuel drip out of one of my lines. Pulled it off, added a little more flare, and cranked it back down. Drove it around for a while then came home and looked everything over again to make sure nothing came loose. The air/fuel gauge is showing me on the rich side, so I pulled a couple plugs out today and they look nice. No fouling at all. The only thing I need to do is adjust my idle up a bit. In drive with the car warm it idles about 550. I'd like to bring it up to about 800. BTW, what size anti-tamper bit is used in the BBK TB? Otherwise I am a happy camper right now. Doing a 15mph roll and standing on the gas lights the rears right up. Can't wait to hit the highway for some high rpm driving.
So you didn't lose all this torque everyone says you will lose? Just curious as I would like to go MR as I don't really like how the SR looks under the hood but I don't want to lose a bunch of torque at the same time.
I still have quite a bit of torque, but that may be due to the other mods. 6 psi blower, cam, 1.5 rollers, headers, 3.45 gears...... I am still running the stock convertor though. Low end torque is great fun, but I'd rather make power on the top end. So I'm a little slower off the line, but watch out when I get moving. I never cared for the look of the SR either. The Mini Ram looks great under the hood.
Also, the anti tamper bit I got to work on the BBK TB is a 3 mm hex. Idles so much better now in gear.
