Default LT1 valve guide seals?

Did the LT1's use any type of valve guide seals? I believe that the valve guides are made of cast iron. Can positive seals be used or do I need bronze liners? I've had these heads apart for so long I don't remember what they used. The guides bosses are cut for positive seals already. Thanks

They are cut and use positive seals from the factory so no problem there.

Factory replacement seals would be Fel Pro PN SS72861.

No need for liners unless they are worn out.

I didn't think about this before but.... it is possible they could have been cut for a different size PC seal...

Factory guides measure like .552-.560 and most aftermarket are .500 but there are .562, .530 and .490 aftermarket as well.

Take a caliper and measure the guide to be sure of what you have and what seal you need to buy.

I buy my valve seals from here:

http://www.alexsparts.com/valve-seals-11-32/

Alex has every type of valve seal you could ever need and is a good guy to buy from.

They are .530. I have teflon positive seals but I'm hearing some bad things about them compared to Viton. As cheap as they are on the site you listed I will probably just get Viton as I haven't heard anything negative about them. Thanks.

I would recomend you use the Viton seals on a street car. The teflon seals are not that good in some of the high vacuum situations street cars run at when part throttle.

The metal clad Viton seals are the best.... all oems have gone to that style and its all I use these days.
