Yes, you can buy an LS1 crate engine, and it will fit into a C4. There is someone on the forum that has done it to an 80's model vette...'84 I think? But I am drawing a blank on his forum name...
I'm actually in the process at the moment change the mountsn a little bit and some small firewall mods & small change to the fuel rails & tappet covers I'm also going to a motec which is pretty trick set up linked back through the original ecm costing me plenty but mines been modied to righthand drive so some of the issues I had with wiper motors @ such shouldn't be an issue over there but I wouldn't reccomend it to an average backyard mechanic .If you want the email adress for the bloke thats doing mine @ manta racing in ausyralia let me know
Alright first off, this is my first post, and I obviously don't know as much about vettes as the rest of you,
So, I was wondering, is it possible to by an LS-1 as a Crate engine?
If so how well does it fit in a C4?
Murph, I have an 84 Vette with a heads and cam LS1 motor. You can buy the crate motor from GM for about 6k. I would recommend check with Shaun Carter(a.k.a "Valvegod") over on the LS1tech forum and see if he can get you an f-body salvage deal. I picked up a complete motor and 4l60e tranny for $2500. Aside from a little fabrication(any good welder can do) it really is not that hard. As for the performance diff between the f-body and corvette motor, there is none. I dynoed my 99 T/A bone stock at 302rwhp. My brother-in-law's 98 vette put 289 down. You will want to use an F-body motor as the vette motor uses a drive-by-wire throttle body, oil pan will not fit, and a few other probs will arise.
My AIM is LS1C4 and new e-mail is LS1C4@charter.net. Let me know if I can be of any assistance
