Default Catalytic Converter Replacement

I have a 1995 LT1 that has been modified w the following, LT4 conversion during engine rebuild less than 1,000 miles ago, ported polished heads, mild cam, comp roller rockers, 58 mm TB, K&N cold air intake, high mass flow sensor, 50 series flowmaster axle back stock res and cats, Hyper tech Power Pgrmr. The car itself has 64k on it.
I have reason to believe one if not both of my cats are going bad. I was debating on replacement options and would like advice. Obviously performance is more important to me than a stock cat! I live in TN and do have to pass visual and sniffer test at MARTA for tags.

I have been to Oreily's and they have a Magnaflow high flow unit for $109 each. It is not the direct fit but the universal 2 1/4 HM variety.

Thoughts? Or experience?

go online, there are 49 state high flow direct fit cats available, not at O'Reilly prices though.

Depending on your budget, here are a couple of suggestions. If you are going to go the expense of replacing the cats, perhaps complimenting that build with some long tubes would be a good option.

The OBX are a nice, budget friendlier option. There's been a couple of threads on here about them. The ARH have a pretty good reputation on here, they are a bit more expensive but maybe offer a discount for Forum members.

If you are just looking to replace the cats right now, you have one of two choices. Either go with a cheap, read: temporary fix, until you're ready to do the headers. Or, find a good quality direct fit that won't require hacking up the exhaust pipes, with a metalic fillement.

I stress that I do not recommend some thing that will create a need to cut up your exhaust, it will cause more problems for you in the long run than it will solve today. Please do not ask me how I know this.
