My problem is with the tcc lock up.The converter will intermitently unlock on the freeway.I have a scanner (otc) but have no codes and dont see anything out of the ordinary. When I was in data-stream i did notice that when it would unlock the egr would go from 25% to 100%.I know the ecm is sending a signal for it to unlock, from scanner but do not know whats sending a signal to the ecm.
I have a switch jumpering it on top outside terminals and it stay engaged all the time.
1st place to start is the brake pedal switch. Does the cruise work OK if it drops out they are related.
My manual says push the switch in then pull up on the brake pedal and it will push the switch back up to the correct position.
Ya, on the scanner it shows when you hit the brake and it does not show that it is when it unlocks intermitantly.cruise works fine.so I ruled out the tps, brake light switch.
THE SCANNER I have shows when the tcc locks and unlocks.I have a switch on the aldl a&f and it stays locked when I switch it on.
I'm trying to find out why the ecm is sending a signal to unlock it.
I know I have a cracked exhaust manifold but I dont know if that would affect it.
Racer,
Something you may want to check... and this is totally perhaps out there... the ecm will disconnect the TCC if it sees a misfire... are you having any probs with your optispark? what maybe happenng is that it is occasionally misfiring and unlocking the tcc.
you may want to scan the cylinders for misfire events... just thought
When I have the aldl jumpered and the tcc is locked, I do notice that the rpm jumps a little up and down maybe 200 rpm.Does this sound like a opti going out? I cant really feel a huge misfire but maybe a slight one.
My scanner does'nt show cylinder misfires so I might have to take this one to the shop :cry . I'm going to keep this thread alive for a little while to see if someone has some insight.
I just recalled something.. ~shutters~ I had the very same thing happen on my ford explorer... id cruise and it would rev on and off about 200 rpms.. i took it to AAMCO ... they did a diagnostics and it was the TPS, I know you ruled it out but the throttle response wasnt not irratic or anything.. i was shocked that they found that as being the problem but it did fix it...
