AC rattle

When i turn on the a/c, it makes a light metallic rattling noise. Turn a/c off, rattle stops. Clutch? Tensioner? Compressor?

Check all the brackets! They usually are the problem. There is two or three on it. Two for sure. 3 counting the main one.

Darrell, i just went through the same thing and my problem was the tensioner...put a new one and she purrs like a kitten when the A/C is on. Two simple checks to see if its the tensioner....first, the tensioner has a "range" marked on it...if the ranges does not encompass the hash mark on the mounting bracket, your tensioner is shot or your belt has stretched. The second way to test the tensioner is by putting a johnson bar (or rachet) in the 3/8' slot in front of the tensioner. Have someone start the car and the A/C then ease the pressure off the tensioner...if the noise goes away, your have your culprit and get a new tensioner...

Had the rattle, replaced compressor, rattle gone. AC now works 300% better as well. Brackets were tight, tensioner good. Hope you have better luck!
