Driving in this morning i noticed my volt gauge was a bit on the low side. this was while driving. i had my stereo on, wipers, lights and fan. after i noticed i was just on battery i shut everything i could off. i checked into work and went back out to fiddle with the car. i wiggled some wires disconnected the stereo's capacitor. turned it on at it seems to work again. but i do notice i have alternator noise in the stero, didn't have that before. plus the volts don't seem right either it's charging just a little above the battery.
well i'm going to call the local auto place and have them get an alternator for me just in case. this is my daily driver and i need it running. I appreciate any advice?
'90 L98 coupe auto. i know the alt is at least 5yrs old as long as i've owned it.
My original alternator lasted many years, but once I had to replace it, new ones did not last for very long. The one above has been in there a year and half whereas the auto parts stores one lasted six months at most.
Oh i just wanted to make sure that was the problem. I have changed one before when I had my '79 TA but never seen one with an intermittent problem. On my TA it just went out. But thanks for your help guys I have a new one in now. I just got the OEM one. I know FR that alt you showed me was nice just no time to wait. :flag Thanx
