Internal balance means that the damper on front and the flywheel on back are zero balanced. Think of them as a top spinning. If weight needs to be added to the crankshaft weights, you drill out a slug of metal and replace it with mallory metal which weighs more than the steel it replaced. If weight needs to be subrtacted, its simply drilled out of the crank weights. External balance means that there are weights added to the flywheel and or damper instead of expensive Mallory metal. The L98 motor and LT1 motors had a zero balanced damper and a weight on the flywheel. With the once piece seal crank there is no little counterweight on the rear of the crank. My opinion is that there is no way that is "better" for a street motor. Generally consensus for race motors is that internally balanced is better.

Are you looking to build a stroker motor for your 92 LT1? I hope so! Show them over there what American muscle is all about! My car is internally balanced using the mallory metal.
