I have a 94 6 Speed with a little over 100k on it, No modifications just basically stock, I have replaced the water pump and spark plugs/wires. Other than that everything is original. When I start the car and take off the car runs fine for about the first 1/2 mile or so, I then have to come to a stop and prepare to accelerate onto the highway. At the stop sign the car idles quiet and smooth. Once I pull onto the 70 MPH highway, 1st gear goes well and then once into second the car falls on its face and starts to shutter, I have tried various workarounds such as pushing harder on the accelerator which acts as if its dead, or letting off the gas and reapplying which starts the shutter again. basically no matter how much gas is applied the car just wont go anywhere. I even tried shifting into other gears and they all do they same. Then about 15-20 seconds latter then car instantly releases and takes off like the rocket it is suppose to be. It is almost like you are pulling a trailer and all of a sudden it falls off and you are off. Or like the brakes are sticking and all of a sudden they release. I am thinking it may be the Optispark or Fuel injectors as I don't believe any of these have ever been replaced. I will also note that once it does this the one time everything is fone and you never have to worry about it again until the next day. If anyone out ther has any suggestions they will be much appreciated. It kinda sucks to be driving a vette and having to wait for traffic to clear 10 miles before you pull out for fear I will get rearended.
Re: Re-Post of 94 Engine Miss or Something?? (Jstockton)
I have same year and specs. Does that happen consistently? I'm guessing so. Once in a great while, my car will do a similar thing. It can do it in the middle of a start while accelerating in first or on shift to 2nd as you describe. I always chalk it up to an engine management glitch.
No hard answers, but thinking here. The dealer has tried to sell me before on cleaning the throttle body air inlet - something about carbon build up which can cause it to stick and hesitate. I've refused so far, but maybe this is something you want to check too. Since the throttle cable goes through the ASR unit, maybe the butterfly can stick closed or restricted before it breaks free??

have you changed your fuel filter? If not I would any ways. If it were mine, I would start with a fuel pressure gage and see if you are loosing pressure and go from there.

I would change teh fuel filter first if it has never been done. To test fuel pressure, buy or borrow a fuel gauge with the 12" line. Tape the gauge to your passenger side windshield. Have a passenger look at it and record what the pressure readings are.
You can clean the throttle body yourself good enough to see if this is causing a problem. Disconnect the inlet tube that runs from the throttle body to the air filter housing. Spray some Gumout throttle/carb cleaner on a rag. With the car OFF not running turn the throttle open and clean the both bores as far back as you can. You can also use a toothbrush. Just don't spray it in there. It might leak down on th IAC sensor. this can cause a problem sometimes. The better way would be to take it off, but the way i mention is a quick way just to make sure the two butterflies are not sticking due to excessive gum.

Change the fuel filter as suggested. This could also be caused by a flaky TPS. Its probably pretty worn after 100k miles of six speed use.
Check the digital water temp when this problem occurs and see if it reads the same as the analog one. They can get flaky and will confuse the ECM.
You may also have an intermittant wiring connection problem that is heat related.
Finally, the opti could be having problems. I had a similar problem when my opti was having problems. Now that I think about it, this might be the problem.
