Put the bottle down Mike and relax. First, tell us what year, and what do these codes mean if you know?

Just a suggestion; instead of a hammer or gas and match, just leave the car in a bad section of town with the keys in it with little oil in the crankase. The if the joyriders don't trash the body, at least the motor will blow and that will probably be enough for the insurance company to total the car. If they don't total it, you will get a new motor hopefully without the 505 heating problem.

will check code numbers and or maybe just time to trash this lt1, and just go with some kind of 383 stroker motor, then may have some cash left for a big bottle of scotch.. lol

Corvettes are like the girls, sometimes it takes a few beers to tolerate them, but they sure are beautiful, and fun to drive.

Is your digital temp gauge switching between the two members? Sounds like a bad sending switch or it is not tight. Maybe the connector is loose.
Sometimes it just takes a few days away from the car so you can return with a clear head and figure it out.
What does your FSM say to check when you suspect that you are getting an incorrect reading?

First of all, I highly doubt your coolant is suddenly hitting 594 and instantly cooling down to 205.

Secondly, if I fell off the wagon after my measly 17 years, the first thing I would do is drive my Corvette to the county courthouse because that's where it's going to wind up sooner or later. Hopefully this is not the case for you, but that's how my relationship with whiskey goes. ( I know some of you understand this)

Third, check your temp sensor on the water pump.

well not going to hit the bottle again for sure, just seems that its getting to be one thing after another with this car. will check connection at pump, and scan to see if any codes come up and go from there. hell can't give up now. as for fsm well maybe time to also buy one for sure. guess just need to vent sometimes before getting the big hammer lmao.

thanks for the input...............pasta

First thing I thought of also.
I'd start off with the sending unit on the engine first. You could just disconnect the wire going to the sending unit, then see if your temp display is still flashing back & forth.

Did it do this just once? Or is this a consistant, persistant condition? I will say that thee have been a few over occasions over the years of owning and daily driving my '96 that little weird stuff might happen one time and never occur again, even if I tried to make it happen.

But this sounds like a sensor, connection, ground problem if it is on going. Since that water pump sensor feeds info to the ecm, that's where i would start and then back trace from there.

Pasta, if your only problem with the vette is a troublesome temp reading, then one solution would be to replace the digital temp sensor located on the water pump (about $16).

Just be advised that your vette has 2 (two) temp sensors... analog and digital. The digital is in the water pump, and the analog is in the passenger side head, and is sometimes called a 'sender'.

When removing the digital sensor from the water pump, some coolant will escape, so pack some rags around the opti to prevent water intrusion.

You have easy access to the digital sensor, and with a bit of organization, the job will take 30 seconds to remove, and another 30 seconds to install.

We all hope this solves your dilemma ....... please report the completion of your project so we can celebrate with sobriety.
oops! .......
