I've been having the same problem with the 86 Vette - L98. Getting a code thrown at me every so often. It's the knock sensor (43). I looked in the shop manual and see where it's suppose to be, but when I stand next to the motor I can't see how to get at it.
Any thoughts on my prob? Is this a simple procedure?
Re: Stupid Knock Sensor - How to remove? (86VetteBill)
Bill,
If your knock sensor is in the same place as my 90, you need to
get to it from under the car right side.
1 Disconnect neg battery cable
2 Remove sensor shield
3 Remove wiring harness from sensor
4 Remove sensor from engine block
Make sure the engine is cold, let it sit over night.
You will get a little coolent but not much.
It is a very easy job. :chevy
Well, that didn't go as planned... I found it from the underside of the car - no problem. I took off the protective plate - no problem. Disconnected the wire to the knock sensor... Unscrewed the sensor, forgetting that some coolant will come out... but 1 & 1/2 gallons??? :U Had to rush for the bucket to catch it all.
Funny thing though - when I was getting ready to reconnect the plug to the sensor I noticed the pin inside was off center. Like it wasn't really connected right. So I straightened it out and reconnected it.
Can't try it right now because it's up on jack stands getting its tranny and OD fluids changed. :yesnod:
